Meet Kylie Jenner's BFF and New Curvy Model, Jordyn Woods
Posted on December 02 2015
Best friend to Kylie Jenner and a social media star of her own, Jordyn Woods just signed with Wilhelmina as a model. When we heard about Jordyn's big news, we were so excited. We had already been following her on Instagram and loved seeing everything from selfies to following along on her adventures. We sat down with Jordyn Woods on one of her first days in New York to get the inside scoop on her big career move, and she did a little photo shoot in our showroom.
Hey Gorgeous!: Congrats on signing with Wilhelmina! What got you interested in modeling?
Jordyn Woods: When I was five, I signed with Ford Models. I never got really into it. I was shy. I didn't like talking to people. I only talked to people I knew really well. About a week ago, I got an email from my now agent who said she was super interested. I thought, 'Why not?' I had never thought of myself as a model but I do take lots of photos of myself and get feedback from friends that I am really photogenic. So I'm here now, trying it! It's really fun so far.
HG!: A week ago?? Wow! Well congrats, that's super exciting. I heard you went to the Glamour Awards last night. How was it?
JW: Well, actually I went to the Glamour Awards for a total of twenty minutes. My friend that I was going with [Kylie Jenner] had a wardrobe malfunction but her dad [Caitlyn Jenner] was nominated for Woman of the Year so we still went. Hearing her speech was super motivational. It made me proud to be a woman in this day and age. Women really do have so much power. Women rule the world. It was awesome to be around powerful women. I had tears in my eyes the whole time because I was so happy and felt so empowered.
HG!: That's amazing! Aside from the wardrobe malfunction, of course. How do you generally dress yourself?
JW: I wake up, look at the closet, and think, 'How do I feel today?' I see a pair of jeans and I throw them on. I feel like style is something you just have. It's not about what you wear, it's about how you wear it. Some days I just want to look like a boy. Some days, I want to dress super feminine. I like to throw on something that I can wear anywhere- add a bag and shoes to dress it up or down. Maybe just put on converse and head out the door.
Jordyn is wearing the Palmer Lace Top by Carmakoma.
HG!: What are pieces right now that you are really drawn to?
JW: Being in New York, right now I am thinking of coats. In California I didn't really have to wear a jacket. But in New York, a coat, sneakers that I can walk in, and a backpack.
HG!: Backpacks are having a moment right now!
JW: They definitely are! I love backpacks.
HG!: We hear you are moving to New York! Welcome to our city! How do you think this move is going to change your style?
JW: I am definitely going to have to layer a lot more. I feel like I can wear more of my style here than in Los Angeles. In colder climates, there is just more to wear and more to play with. I keep noticing that everyone here wears sunglasses. I feel like it is a fashion show just walking down the street here.
HG!: What are some go-to pieces that you always wear?
JW: I always throw on a good pair of ripped jeans. I wish I could dress in baggier clothes but as a curvy girl, wearing baggy clothes hides my figure and makes me look like a blob. I like to throw on a more fitted shirt, jeans, and a good pair of sneakers or boots.
HG!: Being a curvy girl and going to events like the Glamour Awards, is it hard to find clothing that fits right?
JW: Yeah, I can't go into every store and expect everything to fit right. Luckily, a lot of stores have been recently getting more diverse sizing and more options. I have to find a way to make it work, looking for stretch in items. Trying it on makes all the difference! Sometimes it works well on, even when I am unsure seeing it on the hanger.
Thanks, Jordyn! We wish you all the best and can't wait to see your face in more places. And thanks Wilhelmina models!
